This document is the Final Document of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, titled “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission.” It is the culmination of the worldwide Synod process initiated by Pope Francis in 2021, which involved consultations at diocesan, national, continental, and universal levels of the Church. The document gathers the reflections, discernment, and recommendations that emerged from this global journey and serves as an authoritative guide for how the Catholic Church can continue to grow as a more participatory, missionary, and inclusive community.
At its heart, the document emphasizes synodality, understood as the practice of “walking together” as the People of God through listening, dialogue, discernment, and shared responsibility in mission. It calls the Church to deepen communion among all the baptized, encourage greater participation of clergy, religious, and laity, and strengthen its missionary outreach in today's world. The text highlights the importance of fostering healthy relationships, promoting transparency and accountability, valuing the gifts and charisms of all members of the Church, and listening especially to the poor, marginalized, and those who have suffered from abuse or exclusion.

The document also outlines practical pathways for implementing synodality in local Churches across the world. It encourages ongoing formation, consultation, and discernment at every level of Church life, while addressing contemporary challenges such as social injustice, ecological concerns, ecumenical relations, and evangelization in the digital age. Ultimately, it presents a vision of the Church as a community guided by the Holy Spirit, rooted in the Gospel, and committed to witnessing Christ through unity, participation, and mission in an increasingly complex world.
