The Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (CBC PNGSI) warmly congratulates Fr. Lawrence Arockiaraj, General Secretary of the CBC PNGSI, on his appointment as a Member of the National Education Board for the 2026–2029 term.
Fr. Lawrence was officially sworn in today, marking the commencement of his three-year term on the Board. His appointment reflects the continued commitment of the Catholic Church to supporting and contributing to the development of education in Papua New Guinea.

The appointment was made by the Acting Minister for Education, Hon. Kinoka Hotune Feo, MP, pursuant to Section 10(2)(d) of the Education Act 1983. Fr. Lawrence has been appointed as a representative of the Churches on the National Education Board, recognising the significant role that faith-based institutions continue to play in the nation's education sector.
The National Education Board serves as an important advisory and policy-making body, guiding the implementation and development of educational initiatives across the country. Through his appointment, Fr. Lawrence will bring the perspectives and concerns of the Churches to discussions on educational policies and programs that impact students, educators, and communities throughout Papua New Guinea.

The CBC PNGSI also extends its congratulations to Mr. Vincent Sobo, Acting National Catholic Education Secretary, who was sworn in as the Alternative Member of the National Education Board. His appointment further strengthens the representation of the Catholic Church within the national education framework.

The Catholic Church remains one of the largest providers of education services in Papua New Guinea, operating numerous schools and educational institutions throughout the country.
The CBC PNGSI wishes Fr. Lawrence and Mr. Sobo every success as they undertake their responsibilities and contribute to shaping the future of education in Papua New Guinea.
