The Evaluation of the Conference Pastoral Plan (CPP1) was carried out in different groups and different dioceses. These evaluations were presented at the third Assembly of the Catholic Church, which was held from Apri 21 to 26, 2022 in Mingende, Kundiawa Diocese. The theme was “Salt and Light” (Mat 5:13-16) and 111 Participants attended this Assembly. The three-fold aim of the Assembly was to:
1. Celebrate the Catholic Faith
2. Propose a 5 year Conference Pastoral Plan
3. Share the experience of Synodality, at the invitation of the Holy Father Pope Francis
The draft Conference Pastoral Plan (CPP2) was submitted at the end of the Assembly. A Formulation Committee was set up to draft and finalize the CPP2. Consultations on the draft CPP2 were held at the AGM of the Bishops (April 26 to May 3, 2022); Central Committee (July 19, 2022) and in a workshop for some of the Bishops, Vicar Generals and Pastoral Vicars (August 15 to 19, 2022). The Formulation Committee took these suggestions into consideration and produced the final copy of the Conference Pastoral Plan 2 (CPP2). The Vision of this CPP2 is “We, the Catholic Church in PNGSI are Alive in Christ, witnessing the Love of God in Synodality as Salt and Light in the World.”
This flows from the theme of the Third General Assembly held in Mingende April 21to 26, 2022). On September 30, 2022, the Bishops of PNGSI unanimously endorsed the Conference Pastoral Plan 2022-2027 (CPP2). We propose that all the Bishops, Priests, Consecrated Religious, Commission Secretaries, Lay Leaders and all the people of Catholic Church in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands integrate the CPP2 to the fullest extent possible in their own pastoral planning. Let us be the Salt and the Light of the world, not just on paper but in practice with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden” (Mat 5:14)
