The Missionary Society of Mary Immaculate (MMI) marked 2024 as a year of remarkable spiritual growth and community development in Papua New Guinea. With support from donors, well-wishers, and dedicated priests, the mission carried out numerous initiatives that positively impacted its parishes and the wider community.

Outreach programs provided essential aid to parishioners, including distributing school bags to children and clothing to families in need. Youth engagement was a highlight, with a vibrant youth convention bringing together young people from two parishes for competitions, faith-building activities, and recognition of their achievements. Children enjoyed picnics and sports activities, organized with the support of volunteers and well-wishers.
Reaching out to rural communities, MMI priests administered sacraments, celebrated Holy Mass, and blessed homes after extended gaps. These visits rekindled faith and strengthened the Church's presence in remote areas.
Infrastructure development was a cornerstone of 2024. A new community hall, the largest in the district, was constructed with donor support and inaugurated by Cardinal John Ribat and Governor Rufina Peter. Additionally, a dilapidated 56-year-old rectory was replaced with a modern and safe priest’s residence. Solar power systems were installed in parish houses, providing sustainable, 24-hour electricity for the first time.
The year also featured spiritual milestones, including grand celebrations of parish feast days, during which sacraments such as baptism, Holy Communion, and confirmation were administered. October, dedicated to Mother Mary, saw Marian devotion deepened through community celebrations of the Crowning of Mother Mary.
A historic highlight was Pope Francis’ visit to Papua New Guinea, during which MMI priests received personal blessings from the Holy Father.
Expressing gratitude to supporters, the mission reaffirmed its commitment to fostering faith and development, continuing to inspire hope and progress in the communities it serves.
