His Grace, Archbishop Maurizio Bravi, the Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, celebrated Holy Mass with the bishops and archbishops of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands during day seven of their Annual General Meeting in Port Moresby.

In his homily, Archbishop Bravi reflected on the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd. Drawing from the tradition of the Old Testament, where figures such as Moses and David were shepherds, and the prophecy of Ezekiel who spoke of God as the shepherd of His people, he emphasized that Jesus is the fulfillment of this image, the Good Shepherd who gathers His people into one family and leads them to eternal life.

He reminded the bishops and archbishops that Christ knows His sheep personally, calling each one by name and leading them towards a life of fullness and abundance. This knowledge, he noted, is not external or impersonal, but a relationship of love that comes from the heart, where Christ holds His people with compassion and care.

Archbishop Bravi highlighted three essential qualities of the Good Shepherd: to give one’s life for the sheep, to know them deeply, and to gather them into unity. He reflected that in the Eucharist, Christ continues to offer Himself fully, giving His body and blood so that all may share in His life and love.

He concluded by encouraging the bishops and archbishops to become “good and beautiful shepherds,” following the example of Christ, trusting in God’s grace, and remaining committed to serving their people with love and unity.
