Port Moresby: The General Secretary of the Catholic Bishop Conference of Papua
New Guinea and Solomon Islands (CBCPNGSI), Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj, has
reminded the Catholic Media Workers that their service is not merely technical or
administrative, but a vital part of the Church’s mission of evangelization.

Speaking during the launch of the CBC Social Communication Commission’s Five –
Year Strategic Plan, Fr Arockiaraj said that Communication lies at the heart of
Church’s identity and mission.
“It is through communication that we build relationships, strengthen our communities
and reflect the love of Christ in our world,” he said. “Today we are not simply
launching a program, we are affirming a call.”
Fr. Arockiaraj emphasised that in a fast-evolving media landscape, the Church must
remain present and prophetic, ensuring that every message, broadcast, and
publication upholds charity and human dignity.
“In our radio waves, across our printed board, and in our fast-moving world of online
social media, our Social Communications Commission plays a vital role in this
mission,” he said. “Through formation and training, through media production,
through storytelling, and through advocacy, this commission helps ensure that our
communication is slotted into charity and human dignity.”

The General Secretary extended heartfelt gratitude to communication officers,
volunteers, and staff serving in diocesan media centres, parishes, and studios
across Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
“To the Social Communication Team, to those who are working quietly in the offices,
studios, parishes, radio rooms and diocesan media centres across our region, thank
you,” he said. “Your work is mission. Your work is ministry. Your work is
evangelisation.”
