On 2nd April, Caritas Papua New Guinea extended its outreach to the Street Ministry children of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby through a modest but meaningful donation.

At the Chancery, the donation was received by Sr. Veronica Paison, Sr. Angela Peria, members of the teaching staff, and several children who remained behind as others departed for the Easter holidays.

The Street Ministry, established in 2010 by His Eminence Sir John Cardinal Ribat, continues to serve as a place of hope for children living on the margins of society. Many of these children face daily hardships, including the absence of stable homes, limited access to education, and lack of basic necessities. Through the dedication of the Sisters from the Congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom, the Ministry provides not only nourishing meals but also foundational learning in literacy and numeracy, alongside the teaching of Christian values and dignity.

Sr. Veronica shared that the Ministry has reached up to 187 children this year alone. Over time, it has helped many children rediscover their potential and transition into mainstream education. In 2026, a record 66 students were successfully placed into Catholic primary schools across the city, marking a significant milestone in the Ministry’s efforts. Additionally, one student has progressed to vocational training at the Maino Heduru Technical Vocational School, highlighting the long-term impact of this mission.

Such work is made possible through the generosity of donors and partners who respond to the Gospel call to serve others. Contributions, whether financial or in kind, help sustain the Ministry’s daily operations. Current needs include teaching materials, food supplies, and clothing for the children, many of whom continue to face hardship at home.

In expressing her gratitude, Sr. Veronica thanked Caritas PNG and its partners for their continued support and compassion. She noted that the donated items would be carefully kept over the Easter break and distributed upon the children’s return, ensuring that the gifts bring both nourishment and joy.

The donation included children’s goodie bags as well as 50 boxes of Indomie noodles and Indomilk.

As the Church continues its mission of love and service, initiatives such as the Street Ministry stand as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can transform lives and restore hope in the hearts of God’s children.
