More than two hundred Catholic mothers of Holy Cross Parish, Pompabus, gathered in a spirit of prayer and communion for a three-day Vision and Mission Formation Program held from 14th to 16th August.
Faithful from the three sub-parishes of Kama, Anji and Wapenamanda undertook the journey to Pompabus to take part in this important moment of spiritual renewal for the Parish Mama Group.

The gathering was described by the Pompabus Parish Mama President, Mrs. Maryanne J. Kuriako, as a profound blessing for the parish and a visible sign of the mothers’ ardent desire to grow in faith and to dedicate themselves more generously to the service of the Church.
The principal formation session, held on Saturday, 16th August, was facilitated by the Rev. Deacon James Mal, Director for Development of the Diocese of Wabag. In his teaching, Deacon Mal expounded upon the Vision and Mission of the Catholic Mothers’ ministry and exhorted the mothers to look to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the supreme model of Christian motherhood, humble service and unwavering faith.
The Vision and Mission of the Catholic Mother
The Vision calls every Catholic mother to imitate Mary in her daily life, cultivating within the family, the Church and the wider community the virtues of patience, gentleness, forgiveness, love, respect and Christian joy, while upholding and preserving the God-given dignity of women and mothers.
The Mission invites mothers to deepen their spiritual life through faithful participation in the Sacraments, particularly the Sacraments of Holy Matrimony, Reconciliation and the Most Holy Eucharist, and to make the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary a cornerstone of their life of prayer. Furthermore, they are called to dedicate themselves to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and service – visiting the sick, comforting those experiencing hardship and difficulties, assisting widows, and reaching out with charity to all those in need within their communities and parishes.

Reflecting on the formation, the Vice President, Mrs. Priscilla Luke, stated that Deacon Mal’s teaching had afforded the mothers a clearer and deeper understanding of their vocation. She noted that the program served as a timely reminder that their mission transcends the bounds of their own households and extends to service of the Church and the wider society.
The Secretary, Mrs. Rose Utuwae, observed that the gathering also served to strengthen ecclesial communion and unity among the three sub-parishes. The opportunity to come together, to share experiences of faith and family life, and to foster bonds of Christian friendship, she said, will contribute to a more fruitful collaboration in their future apostolic work.
The Treasurer, Mrs. Christina, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the program – to the mothers who travelled from the various sub-parishes, to Rev. Deacon James Mal for his dedicated formation, and to the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Parish, Rev. Fr. Itzo, for his pastoral guidance and support.
The three-day program concluded on Sunday, 16th August, with a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Rev. Fr. Itzo. In prayerful gratitude, the mothers rendered thanks to Almighty God for the graces received during the program and for the renewed spirit of unity, communion and mission.
It is the fervent hope of the leadership of the Pompabus Parish Mama Group that this Vision and Mission Program will bear lasting fruit – inspiring mothers to deepen their faith, to strengthen their families founded upon Christian values, and to become ever more active and joyful witnesses to Christ through humble service to the Church and to the communities across Enga Province.
