Port Moresby: The Catholic Bishops Conference (CBC) of Papua New Guinea and Solomon

Islands through its Social Communications Commission (SOCOM) officially launched its Five – Year Strategic Plan today under the theme “Communicating Hope and Unity in Our

Communities.

In her keynote presentation, Sr Daisy Anne Lisania Augustine MSC, Secretary for Social

Communications Commission gave an Overview of SOCOM’s mission and direction for the

next five years.


“Today we celebrate a vision, a vision for the Church to Communicate hope, truth and

love across Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. This plan is the fruit of

collaboration,” Sr Daisy shared in her address.


She emphasized that communication in the church is more than just sharing information. It

is a ministry rooted in evangelization.


“Communication is not just sharing information. It is evangelization for us as Church Media,

she said. “As well as formation, advocacy and empowerment. It is how we bring Christ’s

light into Homes, Parishes and Vulnerable Communities.”

Guest Speakers at the launch included His Lordship Bishop Jozef Rozynski SVD, Bishop

Deputy for Social Communications Commission and, Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj, General

Secretary for the Catholic Bishops Conference of PNG and Solomon Islands.


“This plan calls us to communicate intentionally, inclusively and mission driven”, Sr Daisy

said.


She highlighted the five strategic components of SOCOM for the next five years which are The Formation on Social Communication, Broadcast Media, Print Media, Media Advocacy and Special Communication Celebrations.


She said, “this plan is not just a document, it is a call to action whether through Parish Radio

Programs, Youth Workshops, Pastoral Workers, Social Media Sites or Publications, we are all called to communicate through our hearts, transformed by the gospel”.
