Coadjutor Archbishop Clement Papa celebrates thanksgiving mass

Rebiamul, Mount Hagen: The newly ordained Coadjutor Archbishop Clement Papa of Mount Hagen Archdiocese celebrated his first thanksgiving mass on Sunday August 4, 2024 at Rebiamul Parish with thousands of people from other parishes, outstations, and dioceses present.

With the theme of both the Ordination of the Thanksgiving mass being, ‘Bilong Lotuim na Lukautim’. A text taken from the passage of 1 Corinthians 3:8, the Thanksgiving Mass was just as emotional and historical as the Episcopal Ordination.

Parishioners from Rebiamul parish took lead in the beautiful and angelic choir with visiting parishioners from the other parishes and dioceses helping with the different processions in the Eucharistic celebration.

After the readings and the Sunday Gospel were shared, the new Coadjutor Archbishop staged his homily on the idea of being 'gardeners'.

Coadjutor Archbishop Papa acknowledged the hardworking people of the land that came together with contributions, gifts, and their support.

He highlighted that despite the country being in the middle of an economical crisis, people from nearby parishes, dioceses and outstations put in extra effort to be able to contribute immensely in terms of food, gifts, money and the greatest of all was every individual's presence during Episcopal Ordination celebrations.

"It is heart warming to have simple gardeners generously give from the fruits of their labour. Likewise, as 'Christian Gardeners', it is important for us to cultivate good Christian Values and be generous in sharing our gifts and talents with others".

Coadjutor Archbishop Papa made a special acknowledgement to the farmers of the Highlands Region for being hardworking people and farming the fertile soils that they were blessed with and encouraged everyone to continue working hard.

"We see the fruits of our hard work when we feed our families, when we share our produce with those in need, when we make an honest living and the list goes on".

The mass ended with the Coadjutor Archbishop being presented with gifts from the different parishes, deaneries, outstations and individuals. A grand gesture to show their joy and commitment of journeying with the Coadjutor Archbishop Clement Papa as the Archdiocese slowly transitions from the leadership of their Shepherd Archbishop Douglas Young SVD.
