His Excellency arrived in Honiara on Monday, 4th August 2025, and will remain in the country until Thursday, 7th August, as part of his first official visit to the Solomon Islands since his appointment.

His Excellency Maurizio Bravi was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands on 15th January 2025 by His Holiness Pope Francis.

The Apostolic Nuncio is the Pope’s diplomatic representative (ambassador) to a country or group of countries. In this case, His Excellency represents the Holy See to both Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He serves as the vital link between the local Catholic Church and the Vatican, supporting unity within the universal Church, fostering diplomatic relationships, and encouraging the pastoral mission of the Church.

Upon his arrival, His Excellency was warmly welcomed at Holy Cross Cathedral by His Grace Archbishop Christopher Cardone, OP, along with the Archdiocesan Chancery staff, Cathedral clergy, Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) Sisters, and members of the Catholic community.

Later that day, the Apostolic Nuncio celebrated his first Eucharistic Mass in the Solomon Islands at the Holy Name of Mary Seminary, which coincided with the Feast of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of priests. Concelebrating the Mass were Archbishop Cardone, Vicar General Rev. Fr. Peter Chele, priests of the seminary, and visiting clergy.

His Excellency’s visit is a moment of great joy and spiritual encouragement for the faithful of

the Archdiocese, as it strengthens the communion between the local Church and the Holy See.

The Archdiocese of Honiara extends its heartfelt welcome and prayers for a blessed and

fruitful visit.
