Aitape Diocese recently hosted a vibrant and spiritually enriching Youth Rally that brought together young people from two deaneries under the theme, “Youth Living in Good Relationship in Communion with Christ.” The gathering saw approximately 700 participants from the Aitape Deanery from June 22–26, followed by 500 youth from the Lumi Deanery from June 29–July 3.

The weeklong program in each deanery provided a dynamic platform for both personal development and spiritual growth. Participants engaged in a variety of activities, including the celebration of the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation, daily prayers and worship, as well as inputs and formation sessions. Interactive activities such as group dynamics, animation, and cultural and social nights further enriched the experience, fostering unity and fellowship among the youth.
A key highlight of the rally was the vocation promotion program, which offered young people the opportunity to reflect on and discern their calling in life. Clergy, religious men and women, and married couples accompanied the youth throughout the program, sharing their life experiences and guiding them in both practical and spiritual matters. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident in their thoughtful questions and active engagement during these sessions.
Despite the challenges, many young people demonstrated remarkable commitment by walking long distances, crossing rivers, and climbing mountains to attend the rally. Their resilience and determination continued throughout the program, as they endured harsh weather conditions while remaining attentive and eager to learn from the resource speakers. Their passion and desire for growth reflected a deep hunger for knowledge, faith, and leadership.

The rally proved to be a meaningful and transformative experience, empowering the youth to take on active roles within their communities and the Church. It encouraged them to become self-reliant, to nurture their faith, and to carry forward a spirit of service for future generations.
The Church continues to pray that these young people will grow in faith, hope, and love in Christ, deepen their relationship with God through prayer, and strengthen their bonds with one another. It is hoped that they will continue to share their God-given gifts for the common good and actively participate in the life and mission of the Church.
The Youth Commission expresses its sincere gratitude to Bishop Siby Mathew Peedikayil for his unwavering support of Catholic Youth Ministry, as well as to Fr. Martin We-en, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, parish priests, Sr. Mary Tongop, youth leaders, rally teams, and parents whose dedication made this gathering a success. Together, they continue to journey in synodality with the youth, fostering a Church that walks hand in hand with young people in Christ.
