A Synodal Church: Embracing Mission, Leadership, and Participation

The Church today is being called to renew its mission by embracing new realities and walking together in a more synodal way. In a world shaped by rapid technological change, the digital space has become a vital place where people connect, share, and search for meaning. The Church is invited to be present in this environment, not just as a communicator, but as a listener and companion, reaching especially young people and building authentic communities of faith online. This mission challenges the Church to engage responsibly, with care for truth, dignity, and the protection of all.

At the same time, this renewal calls for a deeper formation of leaders, particularly priests, who are prepared to serve in a collaborative and missionary Church. Formation is no longer seen as something isolated, but as a shared journey rooted in community, dialogue, and real-life experience. Future priests are encouraged to grow as servant-leaders, men who listen, walk with others, and work alongside the faithful in a spirit of unity and shared responsibility for the Church’s mission.

Central to this vision is the recognition of the invaluable role of women in the life of the Church. From the earliest days of Christianity to the present, women have contributed significantly as disciples, leaders, and witnesses of faith. Today, the Church continues to reflect on how to better acknowledge and expand their participation in leadership and decision-making. Together, these reflections point toward a Church that is more inclusive, responsive, and alive, faithful to its mission while open to the signs of the times.

To explore these reflections more fully, further reading is available on the themes of digital mission, priestly formation, and the role of women in the Church through the link provided below.
