Kiunga, Western Province: A hectic but enriching two-day sessions on Media and Communication saw the participation and interaction of twenty eager youth leaders and animators from April 7th – 8th 2022.
The sessions on Media and Communication were presented by the Social Communications representative from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, Miss Jessica Oata.
The first day focused on the World Communications Day and SOCOM theme for the year: ‘LISTEN. Do everything with LOVE’, writing inspirational news article followed by practical activities on identifying the different elements of an article and news writing.
The second day of the program had sessions on logos and posters, newsletters and photography. Practical activities enabled the participants to capture inspiring photographs and come up with creative logos and posters and discuss ideas for their youth newsletter.
Expressing his gratitude and joy, Vicar General for the Diocese of Daru/Kiunga Fr. Andrew Moses said he was very happy with the participation of the youth leaders and also thanked the Diocesan Youth Coordinator for involving young facilitators from the Catholic Bishops Conference.
When addressing the youths, Diocesan Youth Coordinator, Mr. Ambie James encouraged the youth leaders to utilize the skills they learnt when they go back to their parishes.
“My intention is to have this program every two years to upskill youth leaders from every parish within the diocese so that they can effectively play their role as leaders”, he said.
The sessions on Media and Communication were part of a series of sessions from different topics presented to the youth leaders during the Youth Leaders Capacity Skills Building Workshop by different facilitators.
