Par, Enga Province – 6th November 2025 The Catholic Diocese of Wabag celebrated a special ceremony as two young men were ordained as deacons at St. Martin De Porres Parish in Par today.

Reverend Newman Kundal and Reverend James Mal received the diaconate ordination in a joyful celebration attended by many members of the Catholic community. His Excellency Most Reverend Bishop Justin Ain Soongie led the ordination ceremony as the main celebrant.
The event brought together the Catholic community from across the Diocese of Wabag. Priests, seminarians, religious sisters and brothers, and parishioners traveled from different areas to witness and celebrate this important occasion.
The diaconate is an important step in the journey to priesthood. Deacons serve the Church by assisting priests, proclaiming the Gospel, preaching, and performing charitable works in their communities.
For Reverend Kundal and Reverend Mal, this ordination marks a significant milestone in their religious formation. They have spent years in prayer, study, and preparation for this moment. Bishop Soongie blessed the two new deacons and encouraged them to serve God's people with dedication and love. The congregation joined in prayers for the newly ordained deacons, asking God to guide them in their ministry.
The celebration included beautiful hymns, prayers, and the laying on of hands – a sacred gesture that passes on the apostolic ministry through the bishop.
St. Martin De Porres Parish was filled with joy as family members, friends, and fellow Catholics congratulated Reverend Kundal and Reverend Mal on their ordination.
The Diocese of Wabag continues to grow with new vocations serving the Catholic community throughout the region.
