Mendi: St Francis Care Home accommodating orphans and abandoned and neglected children was the proud recipient of food items given by the Catholic Diocese of Mendi on Sunday November 24, 2024.
The congregation clapped and cheered as His Lordship Bishop Donald Lippert OFM Cap announced that all food items were to be given to the Care Home that currently accommodates 24 children to assist in sustaining their operations.
The donation items were offertory gifts from the Catholic Faithful during the celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King who came to Mendi for the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress.
Receiving the donation from the Rector of the Mary Mother of the Divine Shepherd Cathedral Fr Sunny Matthew OFM Cap was an emotional Rebecca Joseph Rami, who looks after the children with her dedicated assistant Rose John.
‘Mama Rebecca’ as she is affectionately called by the children with her assistant Ms John started their Ministry back in 2006 with three children and over the years have opened doors to bless the lives of more children by offering them a safe place to call home.
Ms John is a nurse by profession and has been assisting Mama Rebecca with proposals to get funding since the Care Home was established.
When asked where they get assistance from to sustain their operations, Mama Rebecca said they operate on donations from the Catholic Diocese of Mendi as well as Religious Congregations and some good Catholics who see the importance of their ministry.
“We are blessed to have a Church that does not abandon the marginalized and the poor. We operate on donations, therefore, such donations like these come as a great blessing. The Church has been there supporting us and has never let us down”
