1. National Catholic Education Secretary The National Catholic Education Secretary (NCES) is the official representative appointed by and responsible to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (CBC PNG/SI) for developing, promoting, and supervising the overall efforts of the Church in matters of Education. The NCES heads the PNG National Catholic Education Commission under the National Catholic Education Board.
Overall duties : The position of the National Catholic Education Secretary is a senior position in Catholic Education. As senior leader and manager, the National Catholic Education Secretary is:
A leader in all aspects of Catholic Education.
The Executive Officer of the National Catholic Education Board.
The representative of the National Catholic Education Commission to the National Education Board.
The manager and supervisor of the National Catholic Education Office, including National Catholic Religious Education, and of all plans and programs developed by the National Catholic Education Board and the National Catholic Education Commission.
A team member working in collaboration with the CBC Central Committee, the CBC General Secretariat, the National Catholic Education Board and Commission, the Diocesan Education Secretaries, and others.
An effective link between the Catholic Education Agencies and the Government Department of Education (DOE), the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST), the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) and other denominational Church Education Agencies.
He/she supervises and focuses mainly on the Tertiary level of Catholic Education and delegates most of the operational matters pertaining and related to the work of the Diocesan Catholic Education Secretaries to the Deputy National Catholic Education Secretary (Position 2 below).
He/she upholds and promotes the concepts of identity and partnership in the handling of the Catholic Education services and their relationship with the Government of Papua New Guinea and other relevant stakeholders. Essential requirements for the position
Commitment to the values of the Catholic Church.
Managerial skills and experience.
Sound knowledge of PNG Government and Catholic Agency Education policies and statements.
Familiarity with the overall Education system stakeholders, funding agencies, PNG government departments, Pacific and other international partners in education and development.
Masteral/Doctoral qualifications and meaningful experience at the Tertiary level of Education.

2. National Deputy Catholic Education Secretary The National Deputy Catholic Education Secretary (NDCES) works under the National Catholic Education Secretary (NCES) and is more directly responsible for the coordination and support to the Diocesan Catholic Education Secretaries, their duties, needs, effectiveness and training. He/she focuses mainly on Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education.
Essential requirements for the position
Commitment to the values of the Catholic Church.
Sound knowledge of PNG Government and Catholic Agency Education policies and statements.
High level of communication and reporting skills, verbal and written.
Office management experience including sound computer literacy skills.
Ability to travel and visit personnel and institutions of learning at any location in Papua New Guinea.
At least a tertiary level qualification and five to ten years’ experience in the field of Education.
