Manus Provincial Government in partnership with the Provincial Churches Council hosts 50th Jubilee Celebration for Papua New Guinea’s Independence

The Catholics of the St. Michael Parish, a congregational member of the Provincial Churches Council partnered  with the Manus Provincial Government to celebrate the 50th Jubilee of Papua New Guinea’s Independence.

The historical event happened on Saturday the 12th July 2025 at 6:30pm at the NBC Beachfront grandstand at Ward 4, Lorengau.


The sponsor of the program was Hon. Governor for Manus, Charlie Benjamin. Taking part in the event were members of the Manus Provincial Churches Council which consists of the Seventh Day Adventist, Evangelical Alliance Church of Manus, United Church, Assembly of God, COC, Four Square, Christian Revival Crusade, Interdenominational Tarangau Base and Roman Catholic Church.


With the theme, “ Sound the Trumpet” (Lev. 25:9), the 50th Jubilee Crusade embraced Papua New Guinea’s Independence.”


The Crusade commenced on Monday 7th July with members of the Provincial Churches Council taking turns daily to glorify God in the Crusade. The celebrations ended on Sunday 13th of July.


The Churches were heavily involved during the crusade to glorify God and meditate on his word, praying and singing inspirational hymns. There was also a talent show that had the different churches combining to showcase their talents through choirs and dancing.


The Manus Provincial Government and its bureaucratic  Department; Divisional representatives of Education, Commerce, Community Development, Manus Provincial Health Authority and National Broadcasting Corporation were involved by way of delivering milestones for the government.


The Clergy of churches offered spiritual rites according to respective faith, glorifying God for his blessings and prosperity in Papua New Guinea. Clergies representing the churches were:  Rev. David Joseph of United Church, Pastor. Obert Mathew of Seventh Day Adventist, Pastor. Mark Koitut of 4 Square, Pastors Andrew Kepesan and Samson Posamei of Evangelical Alliance, and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Sapau of Catholic Church (Dean of Manus).


During the crusade week audience of more than 500 people congregated daily around the crusade arena, laying their chairs and mats for their comfort to partake in the program.


On Saturday 12th July was the devotion day allotted to the Catholic congregation. The crowds swelled to double the number of daily attendance. Youth, mothers, fathers and children were gathered. The Catholic students attending East Lorengau, Pombrut and the Christian Academy Center took lead in singing the National Anthem followed by the recitation of the National Pledge.
