Holy Spirit Cathedral, Madang: Madang Archdiocese held its Eucharistic Congress at the Holy Spirit Cathedral from the 20th to the 23rd of November, 2025. The 4-day event saw more than 800 parish representatives and priests from both the Bogia and Madang Deanery, congregate at the Holy Spirit Cathedral for the congress. Also present at the congress were clergies, representatives from various Catholic Religious Congregations including pilgrims from Jiwaka Province.

Speakers at the Congress were Fr Vincent Agbeyomeakpah SVD, Dr/Fr Christian Sieland from Kundiawa Diocese, Charismatic Chairman from Bogia Deanery Mr Solomon Kaka and Fr Tomas Ravaioli IVE.
There were a total of 5 Sessions in which the speakers shared insightful, Spiritual messages on: Devotion and Eucharist, Biblical Foundation of the Holy Eucharist, Eucharist and the Family and Eucharist as a Sacrifice and Meal.
All of the Spiritual messages were beautifully summarized by the Archbishop of Madang, His Grace Archbishop Anton Bal, during the Eucharistic celebration on the Feast of Christ the King.

In his Homily, His Grace emphasized that the Bread and Wine is the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
“In the last supper, if Jesus had said, “this represents my body or represents my blood, then it is symbolic but He says, “This is my Body. This is my Blood”. Which means we are receiving the true Body and Blood of Jesus during Holy Communion. Only here at the Catholic Church, the Bread and Wine you receive is the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ,” he said.
His Grace revealed two significant authorisations or commissions of the Last Supper. The Sacrament of Eucharist (Holy Communion) and the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
“Two things happened during the last supper. Number one, is the Body and Blood of Jesus shared with the disciples. Many years after that, we continue to share the Body and Blood of Christ. Secondly, Jesus gave the power to his Disciples when he said, “Do this in remembrance of me”.
He created the Sacrament of Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Order. The instruction and commission from Jesus to his Disciples was the start of a chain of successions. The apostles have died. The earliest bishops and priests during the era after the apostles have also died but are replaced by new priests – up until now. This kind of succession is found only in the Catholic Church history. That is why when the priests bless the Holy Communion and you receive it, you are actually receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus”, he added.

His Grace further challenged all Christians present to be vessels of change.
“We have heard about the power of the Eucharist from Fr Vincent and Fr Christian that one Eucharist can change the whole world. Even though we celebrate millions of Eucharistic celebrations, why hasn’t the world changed? Because we do not take Jesus to the market places, to our work places, to our families, to our communities. We do not have influence. That is why the world hasn’t changed,” he said.
All who heard the Homily and talks during the congress sessions felt Spiritually renewed and empowered.
Even with limited resources, the Eucharistic Congress turned out to be a great success and was labelled by observers as a Miracle of the Multiplication of Bread.
