At the Holy Spirit Cathedral, students, teachers and faithful gathered joyfully on Friday, 22 May 2026, to celebrate the annual Children’s Pentecost Day, hosted this year by Holy Spirit Primary School as part of its Feast Day celebrations.

Students from Grades 5 to 8 of Holy Spirit Primary School, together with their teachers and students from other participating schools, began the occasion with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The liturgy was led by the Grade 7 students and teachers of Holy Spirit Primary School, assisted by the Holy Spirit Parish youth.
During the Prayers of the Faithful, heartfelt petitions were offered in different languages as teachers prayed for students, educators, clergy and the nation of Papua New Guinea. The Gospel proclamation and Offertory procession were led by Divine Mercy Secondary School, while traditional dancers from St Michael Primary School added colour and cultural richness to the entrance and recessional processions.
The Holy Mass was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Anton Bal, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Madang. Concelebrating with him were Fr Eugene Grengary Dio, Fr Casimir Yakawa Dio, Fr Marek Kondrat FD, Cathedral Administrator and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Madang, together with Deacon George Kalawa.

In his homily, Archbishop Bal reminded the students that the Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens and empowers Christians through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
“During Confirmation, the Bishop prayed and asked the Lord to fill you with the Holy Spirit. So you are strengthened, you are empowered, and you are able to give witness, rejecting what is bad and holding fast to what is good while teaching others to do the same,” he said.
The Archbishop further encouraged the young people to courageously proclaim their faith in everyday life.
“We pray and ask the Lord to fill you with the Holy Spirit so that you can step out from your fears and go out to speak about your faith. When I see a little child wearing rosary beads around their neck, that child is proclaiming his or her faith. And when a Christian child tells another person not to do what is wrong, that too is a witness of faith,” Archbishop Bal said.
The celebration concluded with joy and thanksgiving as students, teachers and guests commemorated both Children’s Pentecost Day and the Feast Day of Holy Spirit Primary School in a spirit of faith, unity and cultural harmony.
