Goroka, Eastern Highlands — The Catholic Diocese of Goroka hosted a vibrant and spirit-filled Diocesan Youth Rally from November 20–23, 2025, drawing 335 young participants from all nine parishes under the theme “Youth in Christ.” The four-day gathering offered a powerful experience of prayer, learning, fellowship, and joyful celebration as the diocese closed the Liturgical Year.

A Joyful Opening Led by Bishop Valentine Gryk
The rally began on the evening of 20 November with a warm welcome and an introductory talk by His Lordship Bishop Valentine Gryk, SVD, who invited the youth to rediscover their identity and mission in Christ. His reflection, rooted in the rally theme, encouraged young people to “build their lives on Jesus and allow His light to guide every step.”
Deep Formation: Six Key Relationships of a Disciple
Across 21–22 November, six priests of the diocese presented teachings centered on the six essential relationships of a Christian disciple:

· With God as Father
· With Jesus as Lord and Master
· With the Holy Spirit as Guide
· With others as Brothers and Sisters
· With material things through detachment
· With oneself through true self-esteem and love
Each session challenged the youths to strengthen their faith and live as authentic disciples in today’s world.
During daily Holy Eucharist, participants reflected on the lives of St. Peter To Rot and St. Carlo Acutis, drawing inspiration from these young models of courage and holiness.
Prayer, Sacraments, and Joyful Expression
Every day included spiritual activities such as the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Physical and creative expressions of faith also enriched the rally through sports, drama, talent shows, and theme-based songs, creating a joyful environment of unity and friendship.
Christ the King Procession Marks a Powerful Conclusion
On Sunday, 23 November, all 335 youths took part in a moving procession, carrying the Cross from Kefamo to the YC Hall. Singing hymns and praying along the way, they served as a “living witness of the future Church,” drawing admiration from many who saw the march.
The youth then joined the Town Parishes for the Solemnity of Christ the King and the Diocesan Thanksgiving Mass, celebrated by Bishop Valentine Gryk with a large gathering of faithful.
Voices from the Rally
Bishop Valentine Gryk, SVD, expressed profound gratitude and hope:
“Our youth are the heartbeat of the Church. Their enthusiasm, faith, and unity during these days reveal a beautiful future for the Diocese of Goroka. I thank every parish for supporting them and every young person for saying ‘yes’ to Christ.”
Mr. David, a youth leader from Kainantu Parish, shared his joy:
“This rally has touched many of us deeply. The teachings, prayers, and friendships have strengthened our faith. We return home renewed and ready to serve in our parishes with courage.”
A Spirit-Filled Gathering for the Diocese
The 2025 Goroka Diocesan Youth Rally stands out as a moment of renewed faith, stronger fellowship, and deeper unity among the young people of the diocese. Their prayer, energy, and commitment will continue to inspire communities as they journey into the new liturgical year.
