Holy Spirit Cathedral, Madang: Holy Spirit Primary School in the heart of Madang town observed its feast day (School Name Day) and hosted a combined schools Children’s Pentecost Day celebration on Friday, 6th of June, 2025.

The combined schools Children’s Pentecost Day Celebration was the first of its kind since its inception in 2023.
Schools who were represented in this special event were: Dimonini (Mirap), Malas (Mirap), Megiar, Rempi , St Michael (Alexishafen), Jomba , Lutheran Day , Kusbau and Holy Spirit Primary Schools. Including Madang Christian Academy (MCA) and Madang International School.
The Celebrations began with a Holy Eucharistic Mass in the Holy Spirit Cathedral presided by the Archbishop of Madang, His Grace, Most reverend Anton Bal DD.
Priests who accompanied schools from their parishes served as co-celebrants. These priests were Fr Marek Kondradt FD, Fr Eugene Grengary DIO, Fr Michael Jang KMS and Fr Dong Saladaga PIME of, Holy Spirit, Mirap, Rempi and Jomba parishes respectively.
The Cathedral was beautifully decorated with stringed ornaments replicating tongues of fire, and wrapped boxes and baskets of paper fruits representing gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
The seating arrangement of uniformed students wearing paper crowns with flames was a spectacular sight which complemented their melodious young voices raised in songs of praise.
Holy Spirit Teachers and Students led the Liturgy with assistance from the Holy Spirit Parish youth.
Parts of the mass were delegated amongst the schools present. Holy Spirit and Kusbau took the Bible reading and Responsal Psalm, Rempi led the Holy Bible procession and St Michael Primary School did the prayers of the faithful.
In his homily, His Grace Most reverend Anton Bal reminded the students of how important the Holy Spirit is.

“By the fact of our Baptism, we are children of God only when God gives us his Holy Spirit. To Have God’s Spirit is our identity for being children of God. The Holy Spirit journeys with us in Life, helps us make our choices and warns us when we are about to do ungodly acts”, he said.
He further explained to the students how the Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to bear fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Mr Arigini, Head teacher for Holy Spirit Primary school referring to students observing the Children’s Pentecost Day said, “Apart from their learning they need to have discipline of their faith. We have to raise the faith for them to be good citizens of this country, through imparting more of God’s word”.
School Captains of Holy Spirit Primary School, Elliot Arur and Madlyn Michael, expressed delight at successfully hosting a combined celebration with Catholic students from other schools.
The Celebration ended with a show of performances from participating schools.
