The workshop was organized by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Social Communications Commission and focused on Audio and Visuals (Radio and Drones).

The workshop was guided by the theme: Using the media to form, to inform, and to inspire Pilgrims of Hope with sessions aimed at upskilling the participants to improve their productions and come up with creative means of evangelizing in the digital age.

Highlights of the workshop included:

Interactive sessions:

Presentations on the history of Catholic Radio Stations in PNG, evangelization through radio, broadcasting structures, organizational charts, church structure on communication, drones and livestreaming sparked insightful discussions for the radio personnel to share their challenges and identify collaborative ways forward.

Practical activities:

Topics such as vox pops and radio drama, live streaming and flying drones required hands on participation from the participants, which they very much enjoyed. The practical sessions enabled the participants to put into practice what they learnt during the sessions.

Visit to Rakunai – Blessed Peter ToRot:

The visit to Rakunai was a spiritually enriching experience for the participants in preparation for the historic canonization of Blessed Peter ToRot.

The facilitating team for the workshop comprised of His Grace Archbishop Rochus Tatamai MSC, Bishop Deputy for the Social Communications Commission His Lordship Bishop Jozef Roszynki SVD, Fr Mlak Zdzislaw SVD, SOCOM Secretary Sr Daisy Anne Lisania Augustine MSC, Ms Jessica Oata from CBC SOCOM, Fr Brian Nonde CMM from Catholic FM and Mr Raymond Arul from Kimbe Diocese.

Participants were radio personnel from the different Catholic Radio Stations within the country (Catholic FM – Lae, Trinity FM – Mount Hagen, Radio Maria – Vanimo, Goroka and Port Moresby and Radio Peter ToRot – Rabaul) and content creators.
