Boroko, Port Moresby: Don Bosco Technological Institute saw 139 proud graduates advancing with diplomas and bachelors in various trades during the 20th graduation rites.
The graduation ceremony which was supposed to be held last year was deferred to this year due to COVID-19 and was held on Thursday 31st March 2022 at the DBTI gymnasium.
With the theme: ‘Building a better tomorrow through competence character’, the graduates were urged to change society and build a better future through competence and character, being good Christians and honest citizens.
In his keynote address, President of Don Bosco Technological Institute, Fr. Alexander Garces sdb reminded the students to always remember true Bosconian identity.
“When you say, ‘once a Bosconian, always a Bosconian’ or ‘Bosconians nau na oltaim,’ remember that you must be Bosconians who are not only competent in your field but also dedicated teachers, technicians with distinctive work ethics, devoted Christians, responsible parents to your children good stewards of the environment and men and women of integrity”, he said.
Fr. Alexander also extended his gratitude and congratulations to the parents, guardians, sponsors, relatives and friends for helping the graduates in their journey to success.
Delivering her speech on behalf of the graduating class of 2021, Miss Valentina Yamin, graduating with a Bachelor in Instrumentation, thanked all those who made DBTI an excellent place for the growth of the mind and soul.
“Remember always that today we become a testament worth sharing with others, a testament that the good Lord, in all his infinite mercies, has plans for us to succeed and his plans, unlike ours, always come to pass”, she said.
The Pledge of Loyalty and the Past Pupil’s Prayer and Promise concluded the program followed by an animated ‘Yes’ clap before the dignitaries and graduates marched out of the gymnasium.
Present as dignitaries during the graduation rites were Rector of DBTI, Fr. Roger Miranda sdb; Provincial Superior for the Vice Province of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, Fr. Gregorio Bicomong sdb; Teaching Service Commission Acting Chairman, Mr. Samson Wangihomie; Principal of DBTI, Dr. Catherine Nongkas; Registrar, Mrs. Roselyn Tukavai; Vice Dean for Technical, Mr. Jojo Siriban and Vice Dean for Academic, Ms. Delsie Maulangi.
Prior to the graduation rites, a graduation mass was held on 30th March at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, East Boroko.
