Youths are the future of the Catholic Church

Kiunga, Western Province: “Believe in the Father and be alive in Christ by fully participating in Church activities to make the Catholic Church young again”.

This was the encouraging message of the Bishop of Daru/Kiunga Bishop Joseph Durero SVD in his homily during the closing mass of a two-week Youth Leaders Capacity Skills Building Workshop on Friday April 8th 2022.

Bishop Joseph said that although he has not yet visited all the parishes in his Diocese, he was pleased to meet the youth leaders and animators and looks forward to working with them.

“The Catholic Church is more than 2000 years old and it brings me so much joy to see young people in the church taking part in activities because they are the future of the Church and they make the Church young again”, he said.

The Bishop also thanked the youth leaders for portraying leadership characteristics that enabled them to be elected as leaders.

Concluding his homily, the Bishop challenged the youths to be active in their parishes and utilise the skills that they acquired during the two-weeks workshop.

The Youth Leaders Capacity Skills Building Workshop was held at the Peter ToRot Formation Centre from March 28th – April 8th.
