Goroka: On May 3, 2025, the University of Goroka and Goroka Technical College Catholic Students held their Introduction and Hand-over Take-over night.

The theme of the event was "Being the light amongst others, by showing Christ's light."


The event began with the opening prayer by Sr. Rose Akem FSM along with Sr. Beata from the Daughters of Wisdom shared a brief message about "being the light." She encouraged everyone to strive to be extraordinary in the eyes of God and others. To burn what is ordinary to be extraordinary. 


The Secretary of the Association, gave the opening remarks followed by a welcome speech from CSA President Jerome John. 


Catholic staff members from the University of Goroka and representatives from the North Goroka Holy Family Parish also attended the event.


The invited guests, representatives, and staff members from the University of Goroka encouraged students to maintain their prayer life and spiritual well-being while studying. Fr. Adam Samsel MSF, the Parish Priest of North Goroka, who is also the Chaplain and Vicar General of the Goroka Diocese, spoke on behalf of Bishop Valentine and offered remarks to support the students in their spiritual journey.


Meanwhile, first-year students and newcomers were given the opportunity to introduce themselves. There was also a candle exchange ceremony between the incoming and outgoing CSA executives, followed by the cutting of a cake.


The closing prayer was led by Sr. Grace Nakan FSM, who reflected on the event which concluded on a good note.


The event included creative dances and drama performances to entertain the audience.


On behalf of the CSA of UOG and GOTEC, we thank everyone who participated in this. It was indeed a remarkable event enjoyed by many students, staff and invited guests.
