Hohola, Port Moresby: The Sacred Heart Parish in Hohola was filled with joyful spirits as the parishioners gathered to celebrate the third Sunday of Easter with a special guest on April 14, 2024.

Joining the parishioners for the joyous occasion as the main celebrant was His Lordship Bishop Walenty Gryk SVD from the beautiful Diocese of Goroka.
The Parish Children’s Choir with the assistance of BCC 1 added that special touch to the lively animation of the mass.
In his homily, Bishop Gryk reflected on the words of Jesus ‘Peace be with you!’ in the day’s Gospel of Luke 24:35-48.
He challenged the parishioners to have peace in their hearts amidst the struggles of life and be as joyful as the disciples when they saw the risen Lord.
“Have peace in your hearts, get rid of the doubts stirring in your hearts. We should have peace in our hearts and be at peace with our brothers and sisters, not just during the season of Easter but every day.”
Parish Pastoral Council Vice Chairman Joseph Simbiken expressed his gratitude to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands for giving the Catholic faithful in the different parishes of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby the opportunity to meet Bishops from other Dioceses.
“We have the opportunity of meeting different Bishops that come to our humble parish for mass every year during the Annual General Meeting and this year, we were blessed with the presence of His Lordship Bishop Walenty Gryk SVD. It was very inspiring because he came with his own way of preaching the homily according to the spirituality of his congregation.”
Simbiken added that he thoroughly enjoyed the manner in which the mass was animated.
Before the final blessing, Bishop Gryk invited all the little children to the front for blessing through a song of praise and thanksgiving that had the whole congregation echo with a melodious tune.
After mass, excited members of the congregation flocked to meet and greet Bishop Gryk with a few managing to take a picture with him as souvenirs before he retired to the Parish Priest’s house for a little refreshment, courtesy of the hosting parish.
