Mendi Celebrates Feast of Our Lady of Fatima
Mendi, SHP: The Catholic Diocese of Mendi celebrated the first of six apparitions of Virgin Mary to three children of Fatima in Portugal at the Mary's Centre, Muli parish of Ialibu-Pangia electorate, Southern Highland Province.
The event was held on Thursday 13th May, and had Vicar General of the Diocese of Mendi, Fr Pius Hal, as the main celebrant.
The newly appointed superior of Missionary of Holy Family Priests in Papua New Guinea, Fr Robert Ablewicz MSF and several priests joined him at the Eucharistic concelebration.
Fr Pius in his homily said, “We are here because of Virgin Mary, she says yes to bear Jesus to save us all from sins. We all are safe to follow Christ. Christ came to his mission on earth, their first home is mother Mary, she is the true and enduring ark of the Covenant, that is the dwelling place of God".
He said that as Christians we had faith to pray the rosary daily in our lives to help ourselves and also others who were in need of spirit and body.
Hundreds of Christians communities from each parish and Outstation came together to celebrate and witness the joyful occasion of Our Lady of Fatima.
Parish Priest Fr Damian Szmiski MSF, thanked all Priests, Religious Sisters, seminarians and Catholic faithfuls for coming to witness and celebrate the special occasions.
