PORT MORESBY- “GOD CALLED US TO BE CHRISTIANS FIRST” was the main message in Bishop Paul Sundu’s homily when he presided mass at St Paul’s Catholic Parish in Gerehu Stage 6 (six) on Sunday the 26th of April, 2026.

During his homily, the Bishop of Kundiawa referenced the gospel, emphasising Jesus as the good Shepherd and we must all listen to his voice and follow him. He urged the catholic faithfuls present to remember that each and everyone is a Christian before they are anyone else.
He added that before we fill our daily roles, our duties as Christians must always come first. “Before you go to your vocations, you must remember that God called you primarily, to be a Christian. If you are a parent, you must pray in the morning before you wake up and be a parent. If you are a student, you must pray before you go to school. You will never be able to reap what you sow unless you put God first.”
Bishop Paul also gave the parishioners a great example of the good shepherd by highlighting the visit of the Holy Pope in 2024 to Papua New Guinea. he stated that Pope Francis in his exultation says to bishops and priests to “smell your sheep” and he did just that, during his final moments. He came out to the peripheries. A great example for us to leave our comfort zones and go out to the community to spread God’s love and message with others.

The liturgy was coordinated by the staff and students of St Annes Catholic Primary School, a local primary school in the area. Their melodious singing brought everyone together in the spirit of prayer and thanksgiving. The parishioners of St Paul’s Parish Gerehu stage 6 (six) were grateful to have the bishop of Kundiawa celebrate the Holy Eucharist with them.
