Dwelling into our Catholic Faith

Sabama: The Good Shepherd Catechesis opened new and innovative ways of understanding the Catholic Faith. Over a hundred young people and children from the Mary Help of Christians Parish, Sabama parish attended this Liturgical and Catechetical program. It was held from January 9 -11, 2023.

The engaging and creative program was conducted by the Missionaries of Charity, Hanuabada, Port Moresby. The catechesis invited every child to have a unique relationship with God and foster that relationship. It used the atmosphere of worship to get the children and young people engaged in reflection and conversation with God. It involved presentations and talks, songs and dances, reflection, and personal activities. While the children received an insight into their beliefs, the young people were helped to deepen their background of Scripture and their Catholic faith. The topics dealt with were: The Liturgical Year, The Books of the Bible, Sacred vessels, and vestments, and the parable of the Good Shepherd.

“The participants responded well to the different questions. It is encouraging to note that they have received insights into their lives that will remain for a long time to come”, said Sr Joachina, who coordinated the program.

“It was wonderful to see the children and the young people engaged usefully for the entire morning. Despite the distraction all around, they were focused on what they had to do. Their answers and replies were reflective and spoke of a desire to know and understand the deeper aspects of the Catholic Faith”, said Fr Ambrose Pereira sdb, Parish priest.

Thanks to Sr Antao, Superior of the Missionaries of Charity for her readiness to conduct the program. Sr Joachina, Sr Joy, Sr Silchina, Sr Jonas Marie, and Sr Johnila were the animators of the three-day program. We look forward to a follow-up of the same in the month of April.
