CBC Office: Human resource management (HRM) is an important part of any organization and in all sectors of life.

These were the sentiments shared by the staff of Catholic Bishop Conference during a workshop on Thursday, 28 June 2018. Administrative Manager, Sr Kumari Pappu FIHM, was the facilitator of the workshop were twenty-six of the staff gathered.

The one day workshop was aimed at helping CBC’s Secretariat and Commission staff better understand the importance of HRM. The program started with prayer and reflection which then led to the start of the workshop.

There was discussion and sharing of ideas between the staff on HRM, with a few familiar with it and for some, something new. Sr Kumari focused on the importance of HRM and planning in an organisation.

“HRM and Planning is not only for organisations, we also use in all sectors of life. In our families and in our daily activities,” Sr Kumari shared to the staff.

She said that planning is important and that we have to have a written plan in place whether it be daily, weekly, monthly, short term, medium term and long term plan. Also, CBC's 2017 HRM handbook was used as a guide for the staff where they dwelt on the 10 guidelines of HRM.

Human resource practices were also touched on during the workshop where Sr Kumari related it to the Social Teachings of the Church, to have respect for our labour laws and to dignify employment in our Church agencies as we are all connected.
