- Rosene Apurado
Port Moresby: Caritas Technical Secondary School (CTSS) is an all-girls school that was founded by the Caritas Sisters of Jesus in 1995.
CTSS aims to achieve its dual objectives:
-
to form good Christians values in the students according to the teachings of the Catholic Church; and
-
to form honest and productive citizens of Papua New Guinea by training girls to be equipped with technical skills for future employment or to start their own small business that will benefit their family and country.

The 19th of June 2020 marked the beginning of the school’s 25th anniversary celebrations with the theme, “Dream, Believe and Achieve: Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence”. The school started the celebration with a Jubilee mass which coincided with the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. CTSS was privileged to have His Excellency Apostolic Nuncio Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal to officiates the mass together with Salesian priests namely, Fr. Ambrose, Fr. Alex, Fr. Roger, Fr. Dominic and Fr. Srimal. In his homily, His Excellency stressed on the love of God, His care and compassion for all of us. It was indeed a very solemn and meaningful celebration. The gymnasium was filled with angelic voices and songs of praises. The girls even prepared bouquets of flowers to offer to the Statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

To commemorate the school’s silver anniversary, CTSS organized minor activities such as the Sports Intramurals, Debate, Bible Quiz Bee, Musical Drama, and Cheer dance competition. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, major events such as Technical Day and Cultural Show are postponed to next year.

Looking back at the humble beginnings of the school 25 years ago, Caritas Technical Secondary School has gone a long way. And as we celebrate our past and rejoice in our present accomplishments, and all the triumphs, we also look forward with eager eyes to the future. We acknowledge that there have been struggles yet with perseverance, determination, teamwork and the protection and love of God we believe that He will sustain us as we go forth from this 25th anniversary.
We will continue to mold competent, skilled and empowered women of this society as we steadfastly provide great opportunities and learning facilities for academic advancement and technical excellence.
