DBTI commemorates Feast of Mary Help of Christians

-       Sean Dolla

Boroko, Papua New Guinea: Don Bosco Technological Institute, East Boroko, Port Moresby celebrated the Feast of Mary Help of Christians on 25th May 2020. This was the first school Mass at the Institute after the Corona Virus restrictions were eased. Two Masses were held simultaneously in the campus in an effort to maintain social distancing. Everyone radiated a sense of unity and kinship.

At both celebrations a similar message was preached. Fr. Ariel Macatangay sdb and Fr. Alexander Garces sdb both spoke of devotion to the Blessed Mother stating that the Blessed Mother has delivered the church to safety on countless occasions throughout history and will continue to do so as she is the Help of Christians.

Together with the feast day celebration, the student leaders and the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the institute were formally inducted as leaders. The solemn singing of hymns added a spiritual atmosphere as the Blessing of Mary Help of Christians was imparted to all present.

A hearty lunch along with numerous fun games were held in the campus, further emphasising the spirit of unity and togetherness under the guidance of our Blessed Mother.

The day ended with resounding comments of the Rector, Fr Alexander Garces sdb, who reminded students saying, “This whole day is about family, unity, camaraderie and love, with devotion to our Blessed Mother.” Fr Alex went on to thank all parties involved in making the day a success. Mary Help of Christians, pray for us! Happy Feast Day.
