Diocese of Mendi Celebrates Opening of New Church Buildings

Mendi: The Catholic Diocese of Mendi celebrated the blessing and opening of their newly renovated church and four other buildings at the Saint Martin De Porres, Pomberal parish of Nembi-plateau, Southern Highlands Province.
The event celebrated on Sunday 9th November. Bishop of Mendi Diocese Bp Donald Lippert OFM was the main celebrant. Several priests joined him at the Eucharistic concelebration. Present also were religious brothers and sisters, invited guests and lay faithful.
In his homily the Bishop said, “Each one of us is a temple for the Holy Spirit. May the Holy Spirit who resides in us help us spread the gospel to the poor and those in need”.
He urged the faithful gathered to prepare themselves to receive the Holy Spirit and for communities to continue doing the great work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bp Donald extended his gratitude to the planner and carpenter Mr Willie Embel for his sacrifice and commitment in completing the buildings.
Parish priest Fr Peter Seo and parish chairman Germen Paul Pelumel, thanked the Bishop for his support and generous help with funds to renovate the church and the newly constructed buildings that were destroyed by the 7.5-magnitude earthquake on 26th February 2018.
More than a hundred people from Christian communities from different denominations and outstations came together to celebrate and witness the heartfelt occasion.
