Discussing ‘culture of life’ faces a discursive dilemma in PNG context. On the one hand, care for life remains at the heart of the traditional Melanesian value system based on relationality (reciprocity within ‘webs of relations’). Melanesians do not just talk about life in general, but aim to attain the ‘fullness of life’ as ‘Gutpela Sindaun’ gained and shared in harmony with all the domains of reciprocity from the material to the transcendental.
